Finn Guttormsen
Finn Guttormsen is the kind of bassist who finds himself equally at home with a jazz standard as he is navigating Balkan rhythms.
Born in Mosjøen, a small town in Nordland, Finn’s musical journey began in the local marching band, but it wasn’t long before his love for bass guitar took over. After a brief flirtation with high school rock bands and a repertoire of half-finished intros, he found his true musical voice when he entered the jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium in 1990.
Finn's versatility on both the bass guitar and upright bass has led him to collaborate with a wide range of musicians, including Silje Nergaard and Trygve Seim, among others. While jazz remains his primary language, Finn is never one to shy away from exploring different musical territories, whether it’s playing Dobro or diving into complex Balkan time signatures.
When not touring or recording, Finn can usually be found tinkering with new sounds, keeping his bass lines fresh and unexpected, proving that sometimes the best music starts where the melody leaves off.
