Farmers Market

Jarle Vespestad

Jarle Vespestad has been the rhythmic backbone of many notable jazz projects, but it all started with a marching band and a pair of drumsticks in Kirkenes.

Born on April 16, 1966, in Kirkenes, Jarle’s early love for percussion grew out of his experiences with the local marching band. After finishing high school and deciding that a future in substitute teaching wasn’t for him, he turned his focus fully to music. He graduated from the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium in 1990, where his drumming quickly became a driving force in several prominent bands.

Since then, Jarle has played with a variety of groups, from Veslefrekk and Supersilent to the Tord Gustavsen Trio, alongside many others. His ability to weave complex rhythms with a dynamic touch has made him a sought-after drummer on the Norwegian jazz scene for over two decades. Whether it's working with Tord Gustavsen’s more atmospheric projects or pushing boundaries with the experimental sounds of Supersilent, Jarle’s versatility as a drummer knows no bounds.

Though he's explored many musical territories, Jarle always seems to find his way back to the groove, and his contributions continue to anchor the ever-evolving sound of Farmers Market.
